What: A fun match is a practice dog show. It is an opportunity to show off your training and practice under competition-like conditions. Most fun matches allow for some training that isn’t usually allowed in competitions, and some offer scores and ribbons.
When: Saturday, March 10 at 2:00 pm
Cost: $5 per search or 6 searches for $20
6 searches will be offered:
2 scent box searches – these are the heavy wooden boxes used in Posidog’s Intro to Scent class
2 container searches – white cardboard boxes used for ORT/PT will be used
2 area searches – odor will be hidden in a room or marked off section of a room with a total area of about 100-150 sqft
Search order will be:
Area search 1
Container search 1
Scent Box search 1
Area search 2
Container search 2
Scent Box search 2
Only birch odor will be used. No intentional distraction odors will be used.Only one hide in each search. All hides will be accessible for the dogs to put their nose on. Warm up scent containers will be provided.
Handlers say “Alert” when they believe their dog has found the odor source. The judge will tell you if you are correct or not; if you are incorrect the judge will tell you where the odor is so dogs may be rewarded at source.
All dogs successfully locating the odor source in a search will receive a qualifying ribbon. Placements will be awarded 1st-5th in each search based on fastest time completed.
Please maintain the integrity of the search – deliver rewards in a way that does not disturb or contaminate the search area and don’t talk to people about the search until all dogs have completed that search.
Spectators are encouraged, however no one competing in a given search may spectate that search until their dog has gone.
Note: The fun match is not a class or workshop; it is an opportunity for individuals who are training to participate in trials
