This six week class will take you through a series of carefully planned exercises to help your dog learn to trust you, relax, and cooperate with his nail trims (and other essential care activities). Foundation skills will be built before attempting any actual contact with the dog’s feet, and all teams are encouraged to work at their own pace. This class uses only rewards to encourage and reinforce more cooperative and calm behavior from your canine friend. Homework is assigned, and making the time for one or two 3 minute sessions a day is ideal. No dogs first night.
Working Option: Bring your dog to all group class sessions (except the first session). This is a good option for those of you with dogs who do well in a group class environment. You have the benefit of instructor eyes on your work as it progresses throughout the series. You will have weekly feedback on the activities you are practicing with your dog.
Audit/Private Option: Attend all group class sessions without your dog. Bring your dog to a 45 minute private session with the instructor (to be scheduled). This is a good option for those of you with dogs who are anxious, reactive, or very distracted in a group class environment. You will have the benefit of being able to listen to the instructor lecture and coach without being distracted by your dog. You will be able to observe the other students and apply their learning to your own. You will have one private session with the instructor (scheduled outside of regular class time) to get one-on-one feedback and coaching.
