Small Group Social
This socialization appointment is available only to current enrolls of our Best Beginnings Puppy Program aged 7 – 12 weeks (and shy puppies with trainer approval up to 15 weeks).
The socialization appointment is strictly limited to 4 puppies, for 30 minutes, and we ask that additional family members stay home to minimize the number of people in the space at one time to well below 10. We request and require that you stay at least 6 feet away from all instructors and other Clients at all times. We insist that you do not come to this appointment if you have a fever, cough, difficulty breathing, or if you have any reason to think you may have been exposed.
Unfortunately, we will not have Clients helping manage their puppies during puppy free play. We ask that all Clients remain seated and allow the trainers to manage the puppies during play, including separating puppies when necessary, rewarding, etc.
Trainers will wash their hands and arms thoroughly before interacting with the puppies (but will be handling all four puppies together during the course of the appointment). Trainers will not come to this appointment if they are feeling unwell, if they have a temperature, cough, difficulty breathing, or if they have any reason to think they may have been exposed. Trainers will keep at least a six foot distance from you.
Please review the Puppy Socialization Position Statement from the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviorists. We are well aware of how critical positive socialization and exposure are for your puppy, and we do want to do everything we reasonably can to support you during this time. We also know that by the end of 12 weeks the most sensitive window for puppy socialization and exposure is closing. What this means is that if you miss the opportunities available during that window, you cannot easily make up for them. We also know that socialization efforts that take place after this time do not have nearly the impact on the development of the dog as those that take place before 12 weeks. We are therefore only considering socializing puppies 7 – 12 weeks (and very shy puppies up to 15 weeks) as an essential service at this time. Puppies will socialize with trainers and with other puppies during the appointment. We also ask that you understand why we cannot have more than 4 puppies in the space at one time. We need it to be easy to comply with all recommended physical distancing measures and minimize any chance of viral infection.
Thank you for your understanding.
